Just as life is like a rollercoaster with it's ups and downs, so it is with my journaling efforts. Gotta be authentic, right?

Where did THE LAST 3 YEARS go? Playing catch up is too overwhelming so I'll just try to keep going as if I never stopped.

Happy Anniversary Honey!

Six years & still in love!!

Here we are on our wedding day- we look like such little kiddies. Wow, we've grown up a lot (maybe).

I felt so blessed to have a dream reception, held in a beautiful garden with pond, waterfall, and gazebo. It was all very girly- with dancing and all-very fitting, if you know me...

But the best part of all, was my handsome prince! What a catch! He met every qualification on my "list" (you know, the one every girl writes in the back of her journal about the man she wants to marry). It was a long list, might I add...
I took out my old journal- and thought it would be funny to jot down a few:
*a worthy priesthood holder, who could take me to the temple
*tall, dark, and handsome (I'm only 5'3'', so Brett, you're tall to me!)
*good sense of humor, makes me laugh
*positive and optimistic
*ambitious and hard-working
*genuine and good with people
*good with children
*patient (if any of you know me, you know Brett is VERY patient)
*easygoing, fun-loving, can NOT be a control freak (that's my job)
*must have an older sister (back then, I thought all boys needed a sister to help them get used to emotional females... now that I just have boys, I'm changing my mind on that one...)

(If you don't like mushy, now's a good time to stop reading)
These are just a third of the things I wanted, and can I just say I got all I wanted and more! I'm so thankful that I have the most perfect husband for me!
Brett- I'm so grateful for the past six years and all you've taught me! I love you! I'm glad we get the rest of forever to be together!

Humble Pie

in the form of the scriptures...

After moping around and venting all day about my missed opportunity ("I could've been a star," "they didn't even give me a chance" and "what a waste- I'm better than that"),

I opened up my nightly scripture reading to find 1 Nephi 22:23 staring up at me:
"For the time speedily shall come that... those who are built up to become popular in the eyes of the world... yea, in fine, all those who belong to the kingdom of the devil are they who need fear... they are those who must be brought low in the dust..."

I'm grateful the Lord sees fit to chastise a girl with a prideful heart before she gets too out of control.

True Talent? Or TV Worthy?

TRUE TALENT? Or just good TV? Well, for those of you who are interested in the process and how it all works, here's a play by play of my audition (if you call what happened yesterday an audition...)

First, we lined up at 5 AM and waited. And waited. And waited. And waited. Come to find out, nobody REALLY needs to be there until 8, even though when we registered, they made it sound like if you weren't prompt, you wouldn't get in. So, from about 8-9, we were herded in to the arena (along with 6,000 other auditioners plus their family & friends) to sit in our seats for another 6 hours. (Oh, but first, they search our bags & make us throw away all outside food & drink- but, not to worry- you can purchase food at the concession stands for $$$) At first, they had us doing take after take after take with Ryan & the crowd. We were supposed cheer & scream & be excited about being treated like a bunch of cattle...

Which is exactly what we felt like, especially once the "auditioning" process started. There were eleven booth-like tables set up. They had groups of four people singing at each booth. Apparently, we were singing for "producers," although some of the tables had only one person "listening" while others had 2-3. We were in the middle of the crowd and as we sat there, our jaws literally dropped as we watched what was happening. Hardly anyone was making it through!(And there were some dang good people who didn't even get a chance!) During the time we were there, we probably watched 30 out of 4,000 people who made it to the next round (which will be held in September, apparently). Half of them were freaks. About 20 of them were guys. About 5 were black girls. About 4 were brunettes. We saw 1 blond. I thought, "well, they've filled their quota for blondes singing country"

When it was finally my turn to sing, (around 3pm) I was "lucky enough" to sing for the booth that we had noticed had only been sending on the freaks... As I watched the singers ahead of me, I noticed that the lone girl at our booth (who was definitely NOT a producer) was dinkin' around with her cell phone- not even watching the people in front of her. She looked like she was just "bored at work" and didn't even seem to be listening to them. In the back of my mind, I held on to a tiny bit of hope that maybe she would look and listen to me, but I was wrong. She didn't care what my name was, she didn't care how I sounded, she was entirely disconnected and cut me off after 10 quick seconds. Then, just as I thought, she said "Okay, next." and that was that. Looking back, I wished I would've told her off- maybe that would have made me stand out...

Because that's what you have to do, if you want to get on the show. Unless you're lucky enough to sing for the few booths who are actually listening for talent, (they might as well have drawn our names out of a hat) you have to resort to drastic measures to make it. Next season, we'll be watching for the muppet girl (yup, you guessed it- she got through). We'll also be watching for the cross-dresser, (disgusting!) the black cowboy, the weird dorky dancer boy, and the white-trash girl.

For the rest of us who actually have some real talent, (but were just unlucky or uncreative enough to make it) we've learned a lot about show business. Don't do it.

On a more positive note, at least I didn't waste my money flying all over the country to have the learning experience. Oh yeah, and it was maybe a little bit fun to see how they tape and edit the show and how it all works and what not. But still, IF they ever came to SLC again, I wouldn't want to waste my time. Had I never been there, I would've blindly believed that your average joe-shmoe really has a chance to make it.

It's not about simply looking good and singing well- its about controversy & entertainment. So, is it really about a serious search for undiscovered talent? Or is it simply about good TV?

Extreme Broadway

Anyone who knows Stephanie knows she is a musical genius! That's why we were so excited when she asked us to be a part of her Extreme Broadway family reunion night!

Her family is amazingly talented & she recruited some great ward members to help out as well. It was a fun thing to participate in and also fun to watch! Here are some of the only pictures I was able to take- This is the cast singing One More Day! (Doesn't Brett look handsome?) It was especially fun when I completely messed up the words to one of my songs. Ha. Ha. (I'm realizing I can't memorize things like I used to- maybe I should start practicing earlier than the day before?) I think my favorite part of all was finding a new singing friend, Becky! (who, by the way, is amazing!)

More Pics

So you're probably feeling bombarded- But honestly, what's the point of getting pics taken if you can't show them off a little?

I'm so happy to raise two strapping young men!

Tammy worked wonders getting Hunter to smile!

Kye LOVES to chew his fingers (still no teeth...)

Hunter is...

My Sweet Boy!

I love how the blanket matches his eyes...

Seriously, could this dirty look be any cuter?

Handsome Dude!

CUTE !

Well, thanks for humoring me & allowing me to post some delightful pics of the kids! Wow- it's 1:00AM!! Time flies when you're waiting for pictures to upload!

Frustrating Beyond Measure!

I bet I can guess what you're thinking:
Who in their right mind would let their lawn look like this?

I'll let you in on a little secret...
We did this on purpose!

Yes, my fellow blog readers, I sprayed roundup all over the darn grass. Why? Because I have a new obsession.

It's called the CRABGRASS that never dies...

I absolutely loathe it! We have tried EVERYTHING to get rid of it! Last fall, Brett dug all the spots out until our backyard was a giant crater-like mess!

Since then, we have patched the lawn together with sod, put Barricade all over (TWICE, mind you), and are faithful in our fertilizer applications... I have even tried painting each individual CRABBY strand with poison-

ALL TO NO AVAIL!
We've had it! We're about ready to torch the entire backyard and start over!
If there is anybody out there with any advice on how to solve this little problem of ours, please HELP!!

on a much happier note...

Here is something to take our minds off the horrible crabgrass dilemma...

We snuck in another little trip to Lagoon last week (thanks mom!) and this time I let Kyler ride on a few rides.
He LOVED it!

Please don't climb out!
I bet I was a sight to see running like a crazy lady
around the boat ride (I would've jumped over that gate in a heartbeat had I needed to)...

It's so fun to watch this little guy's face light up when he gets to pal around with his big brother!
Kye thinks he's so big!

Sunday Photos

Here is one of the reasons I love having two boys together:
They are so stinkin' cute!
Especially when they're all dressed up for church!

On the other hand, sometimes my desire for pictures can bring on some major attitude...

I don't know what it is about males & church clothes (namely neckties) that makes them so ornery. Can't a mother take a few pics of her handsome son, now and then? (Okay, so maybe he was tired from church & hungry for lunch)...

Speaking of being so darn cute, it's a really good thing Kye has that going for him,

since he's been driving me batty this week...

whining, crying, constant hanging on my leg... I have to continually remind myself that his teeth are hurting him. (C'mon mom, have some sympathy, right?)

Is it any wonder why I call this one my "little elf?"
I love his squishy little adorable munchkin face!

Hopefully next time his teeth will finally be showing!!

Let Freedom Ring

Well, for the second year in a row, we decided to forgo the traditional celebrating & party on the lake! I'll spare everyone more boating pics & let you see the beach instead...

Tubing Buddies

Water Volleyball (No net needed...)

Kyler's fun at the beach!
(He's happy just sitting in his "cage" watching the fun...)

...as long as he has something to stuff in his face!

Kye Loves Grandma Johnson!
I wish I would've snapped one of Grandpa as well- they, too, have a little bond...

Cousins- Hunter loved playing with cute Porter!

Kyler felt like he was really big sitting in this little chair.

Hunter's Pet

We came home Saturday-
just in time to watch a delightful firework show in the circle. Hunter covered his ears, but loved the lights!

Later he said, "Those loud whistles hurt my hearing."

Maybe next year we'll indulge in a parade or BBQ like a regular American Family... We did listen to Martina's Independence Day on Tera & Scott's boat, if that counts for anything!
Hope everyone had a great time celebrating our FREEDOM!!

A Day in the Life of...

KYLER:

This dear little child loves to spend his time terrorizing everything he can get his hands on!

Just earlier today, in the three minutes it took me to get Hunter's breakfast, Kye managed to get into the garbage, my bag, & some fishies (keep in mind, the crackers were in a sealed container)!

When I found the floor covered in paper & crackers, I had to get a picture of his "Uh-oh, you caught me" look, followed by the "Yeah! I got away with it" smile...

Too cute, too much TROUBLE!

HUNTER:

Hunter has turned into a "why child" this past month. Here are some of his latest questions :

  • "Who put the baby in that mommy's tummy?" (My answer, "Heavenly Father.") His follow-up question: "How did Heavenly Father get a baby to go in a tummy?"
  • (it somehow turned into Kyler's birth) "Did Kye climb out your mouth?" (Score one for the C-section! "Nope, the doctor opened up my tummy & pulled him out!")
  • "Where is Heaven?"
  • "Is the Holy Ghost a scary ghost?"
  • "Why don't the bad guys know how to be nice?"
  • "Where did we get that milk?" ("From the store.") "How did the milk get in the store?" (I realize I could have skipped the explanation, had I just said "from a cow," to begin with).
