Just as life is like a rollercoaster with it's ups and downs, so it is with my journaling efforts. Gotta be authentic, right?

Where did THE LAST 3 YEARS go? Playing catch up is too overwhelming so I'll just try to keep going as if I never stopped.

Enjoy the Moment!

It won't last much longer, kids!

(Although thanks to global warming we apparently have a few extra weeks of sunshine! Yay!)

What Happens When...

you completely ignore the garden all summer? This happens!
Honestly, we only planted 3 of each- zuchinni, tomatoes, red peppers & green peppers. Then, we did nothing.

The plants went crazy & took over the entire garden! Pretty cool for ignoring all the work that's usually involved with gardening...

0-4 in a Matter of Weeks

That's right, in just two weeks this child has gone from no teeth to four teeth (you'll just have to imagine the two teeth on top- he wouldn't hold still any longer) That could possibly explain my grumpiness lately. Grumpy baby = grumpy mommy!

Hooray for another great evening!

Good job to all the boys for being master grilling kings!

Gotta love the bounce-house! The kids had fun as always!
Thanks for the good food & good times guys!

Little Elf's 1st Haircut

Well, the first one I'm actually counting as a real haircut, that is...
Last week it was haircut night at our house, and we thought it was about time to give Kye a big-boy haircut! He was so excited to sit on daddy's lap with the cape, just like Hunter does!
He especially loved the candy I gave him two minutes into the process. (You gotta keep 'em happy.)

He looks so grown up. Now he doesn't look so much like an elf anymore. :(

Anyone Need a House?

Everyone in our circle can probably agree, it's quite the culdesac! We have BBQ's, our kids are in a wonderland of friends, there's always a friendly smile out and about, and everyone seems to get along rather nicely.

There's only one problem. That house that's been for sale for, what, about a year now? I just don't get it. Why does nobody want to move into the place Brett's buddy calls the "Celestial Circle?"

Why do I care, you ask? Well, for one thing, the weeds don't kill themselves. And the realtor going 35 down a street full of children ain't so grand, either. And what about when I want to put my house up for sale? People are going to wonder what the heck is wrong with the neighborhood, if there's been a house for sale for YEARS!
It's a beautiful home in an even more beautiful neighborhood, and yet there are absolutely no takers. SO, if you know anybody who needs a home, send them our way!

LIFE IS BUSY. DEAL WITH IT.

So, lately I've been whining and whimpering about how busy life has become (seemingly overnight, none the less)

Here's just a glimpse into my Saturday last week:
9-10: primary practise
10:30: drop kids off (thanks Irene!!)
10:45-12: be at music workshop/sing at luncheon
12:15: pick up kids, run home, grab something to shove in our mouths-
12:30: set up for stake musical
1-4: musical practise
Meanwhile, I'm seeing a friend literally EVERYWHERE I am, so the next day I'm complaining to her, & she kindly informs me she did all of the above, PLUS three soccer games! WOW!

You'd think I'd get get a hint from this wonderful universe, and stop complaining. But, I didn't.

After murmuring & complaining & murmuring some more, my wonderful husband's (truth-in-jest) words came to mind, "Yeah we're ALL busy. Deal with it, people!"

I decided to try joking about it, telling people they were soon about to find me underneath some furniture curled up in a ball or something- That's when I realized all this craziness really isn't funny anymore. I know a few super moms out there who can somehow be in 2 places at once... I'm not one of them.

So, this Saturday, I was supposed to manage this:
9:00-10:00: primary practise
9:00-12:00: stake musical practise (how was that supposed to work?!?)
12:00-5:00: be down to Little Cottonwood Canyon for a bridal (hair) party at noon...
12:00-1:00: Friend's boutique (once again, pretty much impossible)
6:00: Brett's bday dinner (since Thursday was his actual bday- & his birthday dinner consisted of eating some Hot'n Ready Pizza on the comfy cement steps of the church... sorry sweets)
7:30: Another friend's craft night (yeah, didn't make that one, either)

Needless to say, I reached my limit and pretty much flaked out on over half the things I needed to do. Did I learn a lesson? Yes. If you overbook yourself to the point of insanity, something will eventually have to give.

Thank you, and goodnight.

Photos

So even though I swear we just barely had the big fancy family pics taken, I still felt I had to get Kye's 1-yr-old pics taken.
I've wanted to get my kid's pictures taken at 3 weeks, 3 mos, 6 mos, 9 mos, 1 year, 18 mos, 2 years, 3 years, and so on... Unfortunately for Kye, his 3 month was taken at 5 months, which also had to double as his 6 month... Life's hard on the middle child, eh?
Here we have Hunter, who had to be thrown in. (Because you can't get pics taken of just one- that would be a major waste of the poor photographer's sweaty underarms and high-pitched "look at the camera!" "hi cute boys!" "look at the camera!")
Pretty darn cute for a 15-minute photo session, in which the main photo subject is more interested in crawling out the door to eat the shoes we were kindly asked to remove before entering...
Eventually we had to strategically place Hunter in the way of Kye's escape route. (As you can see, neither boy was too happy about that).

I have to say, sometimes good 'ole Target really comes through...
Of course I had to draw the line when they tried to sell me cheesy Christmas cards with Santa's hands around their faces. NOT cute, Target. Not Cute

Our Crazy Chaotic Life & Some Much Needed Updates...

I'm way behind- Since all my free time has been going to "the show" lately, I have neglected to comment on some important events in my boys lives: First of all, Kyler is now WALKING! (Subconsciously I haven't posted about this, because it makes me sad... But I do have to say, I love how cute they look when they first start doing the little "Penguin Waddle")

Another funny thing I've neglected to mention: KYE FINALLY HAS A TOOTH! Whoever heard of a kid waiting clear 'til he's a year old to grow a tooth?! Our dental bills better be minimal for this kid, that's all I can say...

Now, for Hunter:We started joy-school last week, and ofcourse, life was too crazy to remember pictures, so I got him on his second week of school!

This child purely refuses to pose for a picture... (I don't know if you can tell, but he's saying "I am smiling!")

I guess I can't really get too bothered, because there are a lot of pictures of me as a kid doing this exact same face...

The Big 0-1 & All That Goes With It...

Well, I finally gave in and switched his carseat (not that I wanted to, it was just that his feet were completely hanging out of that infant carrier & he looked like a GIANT in there...) NOTE: He keeps the binki as long as he wants! He is still my baby, afterall :)

Even though he really wants to do EVERYTHING his older brother does (like ride in the car facing frontwards). I now understand why my parents were constantly saying, "Be a good example, little eyes are watching, and so on." At the time, I rolled my eyes. NOW it all takes on a whole new meaning... Geez, I'm sounding so OLD!

Kye LOVED riding like a big-boy- & despite all my inward protests, I have to admit, he looked pretty darn cute AND it is much easier than carting a 20 lb kid around in an infant carrier. But please, STOP WANTING TO GROW UP, KID!!!

Missing Daddy...

When it comes to cuddles and kisses, my boys LOVE their mom... But when it comes to playing & making life more interesting, DADDY is number one!
Brett took Hunter camping over the weekend. Kye was NOT HAPPY being left with his boring old mom. He pounded on the garage door saying "Da-Da-Da."
When he finally realized he was stuck with me, he did give me some really nice hugs, so I can't complain...
Last week, Hunter got into the coat closet & found some of his winter clothes. He went to the door and said "Let's pretend it's winter! Can daddy come home?"
What more proof do I need? Brett is definitely the "fun parent." What can I say, we're all very glad when daddy comes home!!

Fresh Salsa!!

My friend made this for me last summer and I pretty much stalked her for this recipe.
It's all I've been eating this past month. (Seriously, I'll make three batches a week, intending to share & give away, but then selfishly GULP IT all UP!!)

5 medium roma tomatoes, seeded & chopped
1/3 can pinto beans, rinsed & drained
1/3 can black beans, rinsed & drained
1/3 cup corn (I prefer frozen sweet corn)
1/4 cup finely chopped green onions
1/4 cup finely chopped green peppers
1 Tbsp. lemon juice (I like to use lime juice)
1 tsp. zesty italian dressing mix
garlic salt to taste
**Mix it up & enjoy!!

What a great way to use the tomatoes from our garden. Now, if only I could find a recipe I love this much for all that zuchinni...
